Yuvarlak Stream and its shady trees near Köyceğiz

A valley away from the heat

Yuvarlak Çay is known for waters fed from Mount Sandras, which stay very cold even on the hottest days of summer. Plane trees, oleander, laurel and myrtle form a shaded corridor along the stream. After the bustle of the coast, the sound of the water feels like another world.

Getting into the cold water takes courage, so most visitors dangle their feet and enjoy a long lunch. Streamside swings and tables are the classic images of the place.

How to get there from Dalyan

Yuvarlak Çay is about 30 km from our hotel, around 40 minutes by car or taxi. You take the road linking Köyceğiz and Ortaca and turn towards Beyobası. Public transport is hard to plan, so a private car is the most practical choice.

If you are heading towards Köyceğiz, you can add Toparlar Waterfall to the same day. A small waterfall of about 4 metres with a freshwater pool, it makes a pleasant short stop in summer.

What’s on the table

The local signature is trout raised in the cold stream. Streamside restaurants serve it fresh, along with village breakfasts and gözleme (savoury flatbread). Tables fill up quickly on summer weekends, so arrive before midday or call ahead.

A few tips

  • The water is very cold. If you have a heart condition, avoid sudden immersion, and take care on the rocky ground.
  • Choose a weekday for a quieter lunch.
  • The shady valley can feel cool late in the day, so bring a light layer.
  • In winter and spring the stream can run strongly and some businesses may be closed, so call ahead.
